We've already established the fact that success is largely a product of a mind that has been made ready for it. Now we'll look at HOW TO BUILD AND DEVELOP THE MIND.
This parable is told of a farmer who owned an old mule. The mule fell into the farmer’s well. The farmer heard the mule praying or whatever mules do when they fall into wells.
After carefully assessing the situation, the farmer sympathized with the mule, but decided that neither the mule nor the well was worth the trouble of saving. Instead, he called his neighbors together, told them what had happened, and enlisted them to help haul dirt to bury the old mule in the well and put him out of his misery.
Initially the old mule was hysterical! But as the farmer and his neighbors continued shoveling and the dirt hit his back, a thought struck him. It suddenly dawned on him that every time a shovel load of dirt landed on his back, HE WOULD SHAKE IT OFF AND STEP UP!
This he did, blow after blow. “Shake it off and step up… shake it off and step up… shake it off and step up!” He repeated to encourage himself. No matter how painful the blows, or how distressing the situation seemed, the old mule fought panic and just kept right on SHAKING IT OFF AND STEPPING UP!
It wasn’t long before the old mule, battered and exhausted, stepped triumphantly over the wall of that well! What seemed like it would bury him actually helped him … all because of the manner in which he handled his adversity.
You cannot change the circumstances,
the seasons, or the wind, but you can
change yourself.
Jim Rohn.
one of the most deceptive myths an individual, especially an African can ever believe is that we're "entitled" to a good life - that somehow somewhere, someone (definitely not us) is responsible for loading us with all the good things life can offer, continual happiness, exciting career options and abundant financial resources - simply because we exist. But, nothing can be farther from the truth. An unquestionable fact of life is that there is only one person responsible for the quality of life you live, that person is YOU.
If you want to be successful in any aspect of life. Whether it's your finances, health, family, education, career or anything else, you have to take 100% responsibility for your life.
A lot of us have been conditioned to blame something or someone outside of ourselves for the aspects of our lives we don't like, the most popular scapegoats being the government and our lack of money. We never want to look at where the real problem is - ourselves.
It is very true that we cannot control a lot of the events we encounter but our responses to these events are entirely our responsibility.
If you don't like your outcomes ,change your responses. Give up blaming, give up making excuses, if you keep doing what you've always done you'll keep on getting what you've always got.
All blame is a waste of time. No matter how much fault you find with another, and regardless of how much you blame him, it will not change you.
Wayne Dyer.
It is you who will believe you can succeed.
It is you cut down on the junk food.
It is you who will exercise more.
It is you who will pursue your dreams.
It is you who will choose to invest wisely and not spend foolishly.
It is you who will live your life within your means.
It is you who will choose to use your time and not waste it.
It is you who will refuse to worry unnecessarily.
It is you who will pray and pray some more.
It is you who will learn to love God more and follow God's precepts.
It is you who will choose to work harder.
Most of all of all, it is you who will equip your mind with the knowledge you require for the success you desire. It is all up to you.
It is time to stop looking outside yourself for answers to why you haven't created the life and results you want, for it is you who is responsible for the quality of life you lead and the results you produce. You - no one else.
To achieve any kind of success in life, you must assume 100% responsibility for your life.
